Kadiatu & Mariatu Kanneh-Mason – Live Performance & In Conversation

Hello,

My name is Jim and I am emailing from Misfits Music Institute, a Moseley based charity that brings adults together through music to reduce loneliness and improve mental health.

I wanted to get in touch because we are hosting an author talk next month, and thought members of Selly Park Singers would be interested in attending.

We are super excited to be hosting the amazing Dr Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason to discuss her highly reviewed new book, To Be Young, Gifted and Black. Kadiatu will be sharing her personal stories, insights, and experiences, as well as reflecting on the wider challenges and celebrations of creating art as a professional black musician.

As part of the evening, Mariatu Kanneh-Mason (cello & piano) will be giving a special performance, showcasing her extraordinary talent as part of the UK’s most well-known musical family.

We are also looking forward to having The Heath Bookshop (Independent Bookshop The Year 2025) joining us for a book signing after the event. There will be the opportunity to buy and have signed a copy of To Be Young, Gifted and Black.

This event will be taking place on Wednesday 18th February 2026, at The Bradshaw Hall, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (B4 7XR), and will run from 7:00-9:00pm. Tickets are available at https://www.bcu.ac.uk/conservatoire/events-calendar/kadiatu-and-mariatu-kanneh-mason, or by scanning the attached QR code. Discounted tickets are available for the over-60s.

We’re really looking forward to this evening, and would love for you and anyone from Selly Park Singers to join us. I’ve attached a flyer to this email, feel free to share this with anyone you think might be interested! If you’ve got any questions, or would like any more information just drop me an email and I’ll be happy to help.

All the best,

Jim
